The opportunity

Audio Visual Officers are responsible for the development and support of ASIO's audio visual (AV) capabilities (meeting, conference and training rooms, specialised operational spaces, video and audio studios), and ensuring the service offering is fit for purpose; as well as maintaining and installing technical hardware and providing technical support for high profile stakeholder events. You will be responsible for the installation, configuration, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of AV equipment, ensuring that every AV facility is ready, reliable, and userfriendly. In addition, you will provide hands-on guidance and training to staff and external visitors, helping them to operate the technology confidently and efficiently.

As an Audio Visual Officer, you will be a self-starter and excellent team player, you will have a confident and approachable manner with excellent people skills and an ability to build rapport.  Your attention to detail will ensure you are successful in this role and organisational priorities are met.

We are seeking an enthusiastic team player with ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, work unsupervised and maintain composure in a high-tempo environment.

A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months.

This role may attract an additional technical skills allowance of up to 10% of base salary.

Role responsibilities 

As an AE5 or AE6 Audio Visual Officer in ASIO, you will:

Assist users in the operation of AV facilities as necessary through advice, direct operation or training. 
- Install, commission, and configure AV equipment (displays, speakers, microphones, control panels, codecs, cameras, touchscreens, etc.). 
- Assist with VIP events and deliver support to senior executives within tight time constraints. 
- Perform scheduled inspections, firmware updates, and calibrations to keep equipment at peak performance. 
- Actively manage incidents and respond to equipment faults in an efficient manner to maintain a high standard of customer service.
- Assist in the management and operation of the Organisation's video conferencing facilities. 
- Manage roombooking system integrations to reflect AV availability and configuration. 
- Manage and maintain the Organisations IPTV system.
- Assist in the production of user guides and standard operating procedures to provide support to end users in the operation of AV capabilities.

In addition to the above responsibilities, as an AEE1 Audio Visual Officer in ASIO, you will:  

- Provide day-to-day line management and support for technical staff, ensuring they have visibility of strategic objectives and a shared willingness to achieve results.
- Balance resource allocation to business-as-usual tasks and project deliverables.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all AV assets, accessories, and consumables.
- Engage with a variety of stakeholders, including business owners, vendors and governance bodies in delivery of critical capability.
- Provide input into team financial forecasts, budget bids and management. 
- Lead procurement activities in support of team objectives.
- Foster close working relationships with key partners, internally and externally. 
- Provide training, guidance, and best practice documentation to junior staff or external vendors on AV workflows and standards.

- Highly developed communication and administration skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- A demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and build technical teams (in person and remotely) – or a willingness to develop these skills.
- The ability to strategically analyse issues from a management perspective, and suggest improvements.
- A willingness to develop and sustain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver business outcomes.
- Experience with government procurement processes, budget development and management - or a willingness to develop these skills.
- AVIXA certification preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with one of the following is desirable but not essential:
- Project management or business analyst principles.
- Audio visual technologies and practices.
- Telephony/video conferencing Infrastructure.
- CISCO technology stack.
- ICT/data-related methods.

Employment conditions

Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
